Gerhard Hirth (Chairman)

Gerhard Hirth

Mr Gerhard Hirth is the Chairman of Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd. and CEO of the Schwenk Group.

Mr Hirth has been working for the Schwenk Group since 2000 and is also Chairman of the downstream activities of the Group. Mr Hirth holds several supervisory board mandates in the industry. He performs extensive activities within German and European Cement Associations and other industry associations.

Mr Hirth has more than 30 years of experience in the German cement industry. He was involved in the development and use of alternative fuels from the very beginning as well as in activities in the cement and concrete sector (downstream).

Before joining the Shwenk Group, Mr Hirth was the Chief Executive Officer of the German cement company, Anneliese Zementwerke AG. During 1993 and 2000 Mr Hirth held leading positions in concrete and other building material activities which led him to America, Asia and South-Africa.

Mr Hirth
studied Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Karlsruhe/Germany. He holds a Diplom-Wirtschaftsingenieur degree (graduate engineer).

Mr Gerhard Hirth has also been re-elected as President to the German Cement Works Associations’ (VDZ) to the new Board of Directors.

Hans-Wilhelm Schütte (Managing Director)

Mr Hans-Wilhelm Schütte is the Managing Director of Ohorongo Cement.

Mr Schütte is a Namibian citizen who returned from Central Europe to Namibia at the end of 2008. He has more than 18 years experience in a financial environment and has a strong background in finance, sales & marketing activities. He joined the Schwenk Group in August 2008.

Before joining Ohorongo Cement, Mr Schütte held the position of Business Unit President at Inbev, one of the leading brewers in the world. During his time at Inbev, Mr Schütte liaised with a wide range of stakeholders – government, regulators, private shareholders, financial investors and audit committees.

Mr Schütte’s 18 years experience led him to South-Africa, West Africa and West & Central Europe. His strategic experience in Central Europe included the implementation of a Route to Market Strategy and World Class Commercial Program for the different countries.

Mr Schütte studied at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa and hold a B-COMM Degree (CUM LAUDE), B-COMM (HONS) Management Degree and furthermore in May 1990, had a first time examination pass from the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants (C.I.M.A.). Since 1990, Mr Schütte is an associate member of the Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA in London).

Dr. Stefan Fink (Board Member)

Mr. Stefan Fink is a Non-Executive Member to the Board of Directors of OHORONGO Cement (Pty) Ltd. Mr. Fink has been with the SCHWENK-Group since January 2014.
He is a member of the Management Board of SCHWENK Zement and of the Executive Board of SCHWENK Transportbeton and in charge of Finance, Controlling and Purchasing.

Before joining the SCHWENK-Group, Mr. Fink worked 25 years for the Dyckerhoff AG in Wiesbaden/Germany, a multinational producer of Cement and Ready-mixed Concrete.

From 2004 to 2013 Mr. Fink was a member of the Executive Board of Dyckerhoff AG and CFO. Mr. Fink studied at the Technical University in Aachen/Germany and obtained Masters in Business and Engineering and a Ph. D. in Engineering.

Mr. Gerhard Kaminski is a non-Executive member to the Board of Directors of Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd. Mr. Kaminski has been working for the Schwenk Group since 2000.

His responsibilities at the management board of SCHWENK Zement and in the executive board of SCHWENK Transportbeton are Human Resources, IT/Organization and Corporate Communications.

Mr. Kaminski was involved in many international business reengineering and IT projects, like introducing ERP and CAD/CAM systems.

Mr. Kaminski performs additional activities as a Board Member of some German employer associations and is significantly involved the wage and salary negotiations.

Peter F Koep (Director)

Peter F Koep

Mr Peter F Koep is the senior partner of Attorneys Koep & Partners and a non-Executive Director of Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Limited.

Mr Koep was born on the 2nd of December 1951 in Swakopmund, Namibia. He was educated in Cape Town, where he attended the University of Cape Town and obtained a B.A. LL.B. degree in 1977. He commenced his articles of clerkship in Namibia in 1978 and was admitted as an attorney in 1980. In 1982, he started practising under the name and style of P F Koep & Company, which name was later changed to Koep & Partners.

Mr Koep concentrates primarily on mining, corporate and commercial work, as well as High Court litigation. He is a long-standing member of the Law Society of Namibia, previous Councillor of the Law Society of Namibia, convenor of the Committee on Human Rights, previous member of the Board for Legal Education and a member of the International Bar Association. He was the founding member and subsequently President of Namibia Peace Plan 435, working for the implementation of United Nations Resolution 435 of 1978 leading to the independence of Namibia. He was a member of the President's Advisory Committee on Economic Affairs, assisted in drawing Rules for the Namibian Stock Exchange and was the Chairman of the Namibian Stock Exchange for a number of years. He is also the Chairman of PAMAN (Professional Arbitration and Mediation Association of Namibia.)

Basil Ford (Board Member)

Mr Basil Ford is a non-Executive Director of the Board of Directors of Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd.

At the beginning of his professional career, Mr Ford acted as an engineer for a civil engineering consulting company, Jeffares and Green Inc, working on the design and construction of roads.

Mr Ford joined the International Development Corporation (IDC) in 1998. He was part of the original IDC team that started the Media & Motion Pictures Business Unit at the IDC in 2001, which he presently heads and which has been responsible for funding a number of award-winning films, including the Oscar-winner 'Tsotsi'.

The Media & Motion Pictures Business Unit with a portfolio of more than N$ 1 billion, promotes investment and development of the broader media sector, including the following sub-sectors: Printing, publishing, broadcasting (radio and television), pictures and other media.

Mr Ford holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and a B.Eng (Honours) degree in Transportation Engineering from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Ms Elise Mutaleni Angula (Board Member)

Ms Elise Mutaleni Angula is a Partner and Legal Practitioner at AngulaColeman, 22 Robert Mugabe Avenue, Windhoek.

She joined Lorentz & Bone Legal Practitioners on 1 March 1997 as a candidate Legal Practitioner. She was admitted as legal practitioner of the High Court of Namibia in June 1998. She has since practiced law as an attorney. In 2003 she qualified as a Conveyancer. She became a partner of Lorentz & Bone in September 2003, and Director of LorentzAngula Inc in 2006. In March 2012, she started a legal practice known as AngulaColeman with Saima Nambinga. Ms Angula holds a B. Proc degree from the University of the Western Cape, which she obtained in 1997 and the Certificate in Corporate Governance from the University of Johannesburg obtained in 2007.She was appointed Notary public of the Supreme Court of Namibia in 2013.

She was the President of the Law Society of Namibia for the year 2005 and 2006 and prior to that she served on the Council as member. She previously served on the Board of the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund in 2005 to 2006. In 2006 she became a board member of the Development Bank of Namibia and in 2008 she serves as the Chairperson until December 2014. She is a board member of Foschini Retailer (Pty) Ltd, Frans Indongo Group (Pty) Ltd and Namibia Asset Management (Pty) Ltd. In these capacities she serves on the Human Resources Committee, Audit Committee and Remuneration Committee.

Ms Angula is presently a Board member of the Freedom under Law Trust, an independent international organization which seeks to promote the rule of law in Southern Africa. Ms Angula has 19 years post admission experience as a legal practitioner of the High Court and Supreme Court of Namibia. She presently serves as a Chairperson of the Lands Tribunal, Ministry of Land and Resettlement. On March 2014 she was a pointed by the President of the Republic of Namibia to the Judicial Service Commission.

Jenny Comalie (Board Member)

Jenny Comalie (Board Member)

Jenny is a Namibian qualified Chartered Accountant (CA NAM) with over 18 years’ experience in banking and non-banking environments and is well exposed to strategy creation and implementation.

She has worked in various positions with the Olthaver & List Group, Deloitte & Touche, Standard Bank, Pointbreak Holdings and NIPAM where her skills in finance, strategy, operations management and execution have been refined.
FNB Holdings Ltd, FNB Bank, DBN, Namport, Oryx properties and NORED have enjoyed the use of her skills over the years as a non-executive director/board member which added to the depth of these various boards on one hand and enriched her governance exposure on the other.

Jenny is currently the Chief Commercial Officer of Nampost Savings Bank and leads the Financial Services business unit including the related projects to ensure greater focus and success for NamPost.

Tania Hangula (Board Member)

Ms. Tania Hangula has extensive administration experience in the public sector and is currently the Executive Director of Business Development at Arandis Mining Services. She is also a managing member of Umoja Trading Enterprises, which is a company with interest in the Namibian Petroleum Industry, as well as other business sectors. In her capacity as Chairperson of the Development Bank of Namibia, she serves as a Director on the Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd board. And was also recently appointed as Vice Chairperson for the state-owned Namib Desert Diamonds (NAMDIA) company.

Hangula holds a National Diploma in Commerce from the Namibian University of Science and Technology; a Paralegal Certificate from the University of Cape Town. She completed the Women in Leadership Program with the University of Cape Town, a Management Development Program at the University of Stellenbosch, as well as a Director Development Program at the Institute of Directors (IoD) in South Africa.
