In 2007, at the invitation of a group of Namibian entrepreneurs, German cement producer Schwenk Zement KG established Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd as an autonomous, Namibian-registered company. Over a construction period of 22 months, this N$2.5 billion investment and has become Africa’s most modern and efficient cement plant. It was completed two months ahead of schedule and the first bag of cement was produced at the end of 2010.

Starting with a handful of employees, the workforce has grown into a highly committed team ready to tackle the challenging task of establishing Ohorongo as Namibia’s only cement producing company.

Schwenk History

As a member of the Schwenk family, Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd is able to draw from a long and proud history of product quality and customer support, as the mother company has been producing cement since 1847 and has gained vast experience over the course of operating in the industry for 164 years. The Schwenk family continues to emphasize quality, cost efficiency and technological progress in all its operations, a business principle endorsed and embraced fully by Ohorongo.

Internal Auditing

Our Internal auditing team are continuously checking whether

  • the quality management system conforms to Ohorongo Cement's own requirements for its quality management system
  • the requirements for certification according to the underlying standards are met.
  • is effectively implemented and maintained.

This vulnerability can be detected and thus opportunities for continuous improvement at an early stage and increase the motivation of employees through involvement in the audit arise. The audit takes place at least once a year at the Plant Sargberg and at the Head Office Windhoek and Windhoek Depot.

The audits are conducted by a team consisting of one or more auditors (usually from each main department e.g Quality, Environmental etc). This team of auditors is carefully selected keeping in mind that they are:
