Job Description:

OHORONGO CEMENT is operating a world class cement factory near Otavi in northern Namibia. This is one of the most modern cement plants in Africa and proudly Namibian. Reporting to the Divisional Production Manager: Grinding & Burning, the incumbent will guarantee daily clinker production according to volume and cost requirements and production schedule as coordinated with production management. He/she will coordinate refractory repair activities during annual kiln shutdowns and provide technical training to control room operators and burning line field workers. This position is based on Plant Sargberg, situated between Otavi and Tsumeb.


  • Assures the proper operation of the kiln system incl. weighing, dosing and transport installations.
  • Constantly monitor the status of the machinery (including wear status) and the performance of the processes and takes the necessary measures for corrections.
  • Constantly monitor the status of the refractory installations and coordinates the necessary activities with the divisional production manager.
  • Securing reserve of necessary materials, such as raw meal, clinker, fuels and additives for the clinker production.
  • Provides theoretical and practical training to burning line field workers regarding refractory installation and care, as well as the functioning of equipment and processes in the preheater-kiln-cooler system.
  • Provides theoretical and practical training to control room operator trainees and inexperience control room operators for all sections of the cement plant, including training on Simulex kiln plant simulation software, in plant practical training and training and guidance in the control room.
  • Assist in the evaluation of the knowledge and experience of trainees by means of oral or written evaluations.
  • Ensures the implementation of OH&S procedures strives for zero accidents operation and creates a proper working environment.


  • Grade 12, with a Technical / Supervisory / Management degree will be an advantage. Minimum four (4) years’ experience as a foreman in the cement industry, mining, heavy industry or comparable industry and minimum five (5) years’ experience as a control room operator in a cement plant.
  • Special knowledge of the process flows in the cement industry would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in working with Siemens PCS 7 with WinCC automation technology.
  • Extensive knowledge of the mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to operate the preheater-kiln-cooler system and all other sections of the plant independently from SCADA.
  • Excellent management and leadership qualifications, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize own workload, take initiative and good judgment.
  • Excellent communication and inter-cultural intelligence skills.
  • Fluency in English is a prerequisite, Afrikaans would be an advantage.
