Rehabilitation of Children’s Playground
In August 2008 the rehabilitation of the Otavi children’s playground which had fallen into disrepair was one of the first projects tackled by the OOCT, in partnership with supporters from the private sector. Besides the re-fencing of the property and installing of a new entrance gate, the playground equipment was refurbished and painted.
Donation of Hospital Equipment to Otavi Health Clinic
On 25 August 2009 the OOCT in cooperation with SUPPORT e.V. handed over a donation consisting of a number of items, including hospital beds, bedside lockers and baby cots worth in excess of N$700 000.00 to the newly renovated Otavi Health Clinic.
Donation of Hospital Equipment to the Ministry of Health and Social Services
On 24 March 2010, the OOCT and SUPPORT e.V. signed a technical co-operation agreement with the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) to guide the collaboration between the three partners in their mutual aim to improve the provision of health care in Namibia. A donation of medical equipment in excess of N$2.3 million from the OOCT and SUPPORT e.V to the MoHSS cemented this relationship. The shipment consisted primarily of sophisticated operating equipment, including vital signs monitors, operating theatre tables, suction apparatuses for operation theatres and anaesthetic machines. Modern hospital clothing designed to minimise risk of infection formed part of the consignment, as well as sixteen children’s cots, a gynaecological examination chair, mammographic screening equipment, secretion suction apparatuses, fluorescent screens, medicine trolleys, lamps, examination couches and crutches.
Donation of Wheelchair to Kodiva Dausab
On 29 March 2010, in response to a request from the Otavi community, the OOCT presented a wheelchair to a young sufferer of tuberculosis arthritis. The young man in question, Kodiva Dausab, had contracted an infection in his leg joints, was unable to walk and, therefore, had great difficulties in attending school. Use of the wheelchair allowed Kodiva to get to his classes and has ensured a quicker recovery of Kodiva’s affected leg.
Solar Geysers
In June 2010, the OOCT, in partnership with Namibia Engineering Corporation (NEC) and the First National Bank (FNB) Foundation, installed two 300 litre solar water systems in one of the three dormitories of the Johanniter Heime Khoaeb in Otavi. The donation, valued at around N$ 60 000.00, enabled the sixty children living in this dormitory to take their first hot shower in a long time. The previous warm water system had been out of order for a while, resulting in daily cold showers for the youngsters. This had affected their general health and hygiene levels as well as causing physical discomfort, especially during winter. The newly installed Solarhart system has therefore contributed considerably towards the wellbeing and motivation of the learners.
