Medical Equipment to strengthen services at Katutura Health Centre

Location: Katutura Health Centre
Date: 06 March 2017

Donation: N$ 41000.00

Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT), in collaboration with Support Ulm e.V. donated medical equipment to the value of N$41 000 to the Ministry of Health and Social Services, to facilitate workflow and contribute to improved patient care at the Katutura Health Center.

The medical equipment, consisting of Adult Digital Weighing Scales, Paediatric Digital Weighing Scales and Suction machines, was officially handed over to the Health Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Andreas Mwoombola.

The equipment will enable the health center to deliver improved service, as the center has seen a drastic increase in patients over the years. Katutura Health Centre is the only healthcare center in Katutura, and serves a catchment population of around 106 017 people.

“We are very grateful for what Ohorongo is doing through their Trust, as we would not be able to carry out our mandate without assistance such as this. We all understand that, without these items, delivery of quality care to our patients will be negatively affected,” he said.

The Chairman of the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust, Mr. Hans-Wilhelm Schütte, said: “We at OOCT are delighted to be involved in initiatives that seeks to strengthen the critical work that this Ministry is doing, in order to ensure quality health services to the Namibian nation.”

The donation is a result of a Technical Co-operation Agreement between Support Ulm e.V, OOCT and the Ministry of Health and Social Services, to deliver medical equipment as prioritized by the ministry, to ensure excellent medical care in public health facilities and the exchange of medical professionals.

Today's donation follows a similar contribution made to Oshakati State hospital in November last year, where OOCT in collaboration with the Support Ulm e.V., donated a container with medical equipment to the value of N$ 688,000.

Ohorongo Cement has also donated 34 tons of cement towards the construction of the Etunda Clinic near the Founding Father’s farm, which is in the final stages of completion. Support Ulm e.V, in collaboration with OOCT, has also committed medical equipment for Etunda Clinic to the value of N$ 600 000-00.
