Providing Cement for Namibia
Ohorongo Cement is Namibia’s only cement manufacturer. Situated in the north of Namibia close to the village of Otavi, we started construction of the most modern cement plant in Namibia. After the plant is completed, Ohorongo will sustainably produce world class cement to Namibian and regional consumers.
Company Roots
We trace our roots to the late 1800s, when the Schwenk family first started the production of cement in Ulm, Germany. Since then the Schwenk family has invested in terms of technology and human capacity so that today the enterprise has developed into a major player in the German cement industry.
During 2007 the Schwenk group expanded their horizon to invest in Namibia. The generous resource to the north of Otavi promised a sustainable supply of raw material for world class cement. Construction of our plant started beginning of 2008, with the completion set for end of 2010.
Quality
The cement to be produced by us will be of highest quality standards based on European and South African standards, approved and certified by the SABS. Our plant deploys the best available technology to ensure consistency cement quality, with lowest impact on the environment.
Technology and Alternative Energy
Schwenk has always been on the forefront for development and technological advancement. From the start this culture was introduced to Ohorongo, with our plant equipped with the facilities to use biomass instead of coal for burning the clinker. Through this, Ohorongo’s plant is one of the plants worldwide with the lowest CO2 emissions.
