In 2007, at the invitation of a group of Namibian entrepreneurs, German cement producer Schwenk KG established Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd as an autonomous, Namibian-registered company. Over a construction period of 22 months, this N$2.5 billion investment and has become Africa’s most modern and efficient cement plant. It was completed two months ahead of schedule and the first bag of cement was produced at the end of 2010.
Starting from a handful of employees, the workforce has grown into a highly committed team ready to tackle the challenging task of establishing Ohorongo as Namibia’s only cement producing company.
As a member of the Schwenk corporate family, Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd is able to draw on a long and proud history of product quality and customer support, as the mother company has been producing cement since 1847 and has gained vast experience over the course of operating in the industry for 164 years. The Schwenk family continues to emphasize quality, cost efficiency and technological progress in all its operations, a business principle endorsed and embraced fully by Ohorongo.
