A word from the MD

What a long way the company has come since the groundbreaking ceremony on 29 January 2009.
It is simply amazing to look back over a period of 4 years to see the giant steps that the company has made in a brand-new industry in Namibia.

It took a lot of focus, hard work, and challenges, to get to where we are today.
Now it is time for Ohorongo to look towards the future, towards increased production, towards the excitement of having established a new industry in Namibia, towards building a name for ourselves amongst customers and competition, towards settling a new industry in Namibia, positively contributing to the economy of our country.

The year 2011 was highlighted by many milestones in the history of Ohorongo Cement, but mentioning only a few:

  • Official inauguration by his Excellency, the President of Namibia, His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba
  • Successful commissioning of the plant, including certification by Independent Engineers
  • Quality certification of all our products by SABS.

The year 2012 was highlighted by a few even bigger milestones:

  • Increased volumes
  • First ever National Promotion
  • First Customer Satisfaction Survey
  • First exports to Angola, Botswana, DRC and the start of the St Helena project
  • Opened depot in Ondangwa

The year 2013 had milestones of its own:

  • Ohorongo won the first ever NMA Manufacturer of the Year Award, together with 4 others: NMA Corporate Manufacturer of theYear 2nd place / NMA New Manufacturer of the Year 1st place / NMA Ambassador for Manufacturing 2nd place and NMA Most Environmentally Friendly Manufacturer 1st place
  • Best Manufacturing Exhibitor at the Ongwediva Trade Fair
  • Pennypinchers Supplier of the Year Award
  • Opened a new depot in Walvis Bay
  • Million Tons Cement Sold Celebration
  • Continued exports to St Helena Airport Project
  • 96% Namibian staff complement
  • Received ISO 14001:2008 & ISO 9001:2008: certification

All of the above cemented a solid foundation for the future.

The focus remains on improvement on health and safety in our entire organization. It is crucial that everybody needs to take safety extremely serious with the motto:
"One injury is one too many and one fatality is one too many".

A big thank you goes out to the extreme commitment of our entire staff and the support we have received from suppliers, stakeholders and partners.

We are truly ‘BUILDING FORWARD’ on this solid foundation, manufacturing & selling a 100% Namibian product of international standard, that we are all extremely proud of.

Yours in cement,
