Ohorongo - Otjozondjupa patrol on the roll

The Otjozondjupa Regional Police benefited from a donation of bicycles by the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT), with the support of Cymot, in the fight against crime within the Otjozondjupa Region.

The hand-over of 12 Challenger bicycles took place on Friday, 8 April in Otavi. Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb, received the donation in excess of N$ 20 000, on behalf of the Otjozondjupa Police, from the former Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Safety and Security, Dr. Ndeutala Angolo, who is also a Trustee Member of OOCT. The former Otavi Mayor, Markus Damaseb, who is also a Trustee member of OOCT, during his speech confirmed the commitment of OOCT. Otavi Constituency Councilor, Laina Nekundi also attended the event.

“The bicycles will be used in street patrols to fight all types of crime activities in Otavi & Otjiwarongo.It will also help us to reach areas which vehicles cannot access,” said Deputy Commissioner Khairabeb.

“Each police station will receive 6 of the bicycles.”

“The safety of communities remains an important factor, hence the commitment to join hands with the Police in fighting crime.”

Ohorongo Cement will always be a partner in initiatives such as this through its Trust,” said Mr Rudolf Coetzee, General Administration Manager at Ohorongo Cement.

This donation forms part of a bigger roll-out donation of bicycles in the Oshikoto and Otjozondjupa Regions, which also benefited the town of Tsumeb, who received their bicycles in December 2015.

Deputy Commissioner Khairabeb thanked the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust for the donation, stating that the bicycles will be fully utilized.

The focus areas of OOCT is based on 3 pillars: Education, Healthcare and Infrastructure.

Many institutions have benefited from donations by OOCT during the past 5 years.

From inception to date donations by OOCT already exceeds ten million Namibian Dollars.
