Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd recently donated 36 tonnes of Ohorongo Cement to the Outjo Municipality to use for the upgrading of their local sports facilities for the upcoming NALASRA GAMES in May.

The Municipality of Outjo submitted a bid to host the Namibia Local Authority Sport and Recreation Games in Outjo for 2014 which was then awarded to the town and will be hosted from 4 – 10 May 2014.

“The sports facilities were in a very poor state and was in dire need of upgrading,” said Mr Fransley Gordon /Gomseb, Deputy Mayor of Outjo. “We are very thankful for the donation from Ohorongo Cement which made it possible for us to upgrade the facilities which enabled us to proudly host the NALASRA GAMES this year,” said /Gomseb. “The timing is very good as all the Private Schools in Namibia will also be hosting a Private Schools weekend from 4 – 8 June and would also be making use of the upgraded facilities,” he said.

The theme for the Games this year is “Uniting where it all started”.

The NALASRA games was founded on 10 May 2008 in Okahandja and has its roots from previous games organized by the Southern African Inter-Municipal Sports Association (SAIMSA), which originated in 2003 in Botswana. ## “Ohorongo Cement is proud to be able to make a contribution whereby all the Local Authorities in Namibia can benefit, while at the same time making a valuable contribution within our region,” said Mr Hans-Wilhelm Schuette, MD of Ohorongo Cement.

Local Authorities will participate in the following sports codes:

  • Soccer
  • Netball
  • Volleyball
  • Darts
  • Tug of War
  • Marathon
  • Fun Walk
  • 4 x 100m Relay
  • Tennis
  • Stone Game
  • Ring Board
  • Pool.

The NALASRA GAMES offers Outjo the golden opportunity to host this national event whereby 54 Local Authorities in Namibia, plus-minus 2 00 participants from various Municipalities, Town and Village Councils are expected to partake.
