Ohorongo Cement opens 5MW solar plant

Published on: 10 September 2018

Namibia’s Ohorongo Cement officially inaugurated its 5MW solar photovoltaic plant this week at the company’s head offices near Otavi, Otjozondjuba region, Namibia. Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo delivered the keynote address.

The Minister said solar power has grown exponentially in Namibia since the inception of the Renewable Energy Feed-In Tariff programme in 2014 that its contribution to the grid has resulted in further studies by NamPower and the Electricity Control Board (ECB) to consider the addition of extra PV generation to the grid without substantial damage to the network. He encouraged investors and developers to follow Ohorongo’s example, according to the Namibia Economist.
