Published on: 25 August 2009

In a public ceremony on the 25th of August 2009, the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT) handed over a donation from Support eV in excess of N$700 000.00 to the Otavi Health Clinic. The donation consists of, amongst other items, hospital beds, bedside lockers and baby cots.

As part of Ohorongo Cement (PTY) Ltd's commitment to develop Otavi, the company - in partnership with the OOCT - facilitated the visit of medical professionals affiliated with Support eV to assess the Otavi healthcare faci
lities during March this year. The visit resulted in the commitment of the group to in vest in Otavi's public infrastructure, where the donation of the hospital beds is only one example of the Ohorongo-Support eV partnership. Further projects in the pipeline in clude the renovation of four treatment rooms in the Otavi Health Clinic and the establishment of an initiative supporting Albinos. Moreover, the group will hold a major fund
raising event mid September in Germany. All funds generated are earmarked for further initiatives of the OOCT.

The Honourable Minister of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Dr Kamwi, addressed the Ohorongo Cement Managing Director and staff: "You made a giant step in the right direction. You can be rest assured that the presence of the Permanent Secretary, the Director of the Otjozondjupa region and myself clearly demonstrate how much we value this consignment." Minister Kamwi also called upon the health personnel of the Otavi Health Centre to put the medical equipment to good use.

Managing Director Hans-Wilhelm Schūtte had this to say: "Ohorongo Cement is again astounded by the commitment of Support eV to the development of health services in Otavi and grateful for the assistance. I also would like to wholeheartedly thank Woker Freight Services, Manica Group Namibia as well as MACS Shipping and Wesbank Transport, who offered their services free of charge, including the free transport from Germany all the way to Otavi."

Regional Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services for the Otjozondjupa region, Mr Taapopi said: "The idea to establish the OOCT was conceived by Ohorongo Cement's management only a year ago and Iam very impressed with the achievements of the OOCT in such a short period of time. When considering that Ohorongo is currently busy with the plant construct ion phase and production only due to commence in 2010, OOCT is an excellent example of how corporations can work together with local communities to create a better life for all."
