A donation of various medical equipment was handed over to the Rundu State Hospital by the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT) on behalf of Support e.V. to the Hon. Deputy Minister of Health & Social Services on Friday, 18 July 2014.

The donation consisted of hospital beds, matrasses, bedside tables, wheelchairs, walking frames, emergency hospital camp beds, bunk beds for children, care elevating mechanisms, commodity chairs and others to the value of N$ 85 809.60.

This project initiative was born at a fundraising event in Ulm, hosted by Support e.V. where the Hon. Deputy Minister Haingura was in attendance.

“The wheelchairs received from Ohorongo Cement (OOCT/Support e.V.) came timely, as they will satisfy the mobility needs of some brothers and sisters while we are still waiting for the wheelchairs and other mobility aids that the Ministry is procuring for our communities. Therefore, efforts like this from dedicated organizations like Ohorongo Company to take part in the provision of patient care, is much appreciated,” said the Deputy Minister of Health & Social Services, Hon. Petrina Haingura (MP).

“Ohorongo Company’s donation of mattresses and beds for adults & children will ensure that Rundu Hospital will always have enough. This donation is not meant to serve only Kavango East, but the whole Namibian nation”, she stated.

“The OOCT and Support e.V. would like to thank the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Trade & Industry & the Ministry of Finance for the good relationship in the past, - with a special thanks to the Hon. Deputy Ministry for her efforts, endeavors and enthusiasm towards this project,” said Mr Rudolf Coetzee, Administration Manager of Ohorongo Cement.

“As we all know, Namibia faces many challenges in delivering quality health services to the community with main constraints amongst a few being inadequate medical equipment and supplies.”

Support e.V. is a non-profit organization based in Ulm, Germany, who made it their aim to support medical projects in the developing world through financial and humatarian means and donations.

Some of the previous projects that OOCT and SUPPORT e.V. has done in the past includes amongst others the renovation of the Otavi Health Clinic, the setting up of an Albino Corner, donation of hospital & specialized medical equipment, donation of sun creams and support to Khorab Secondary School with solar geysers, an ambulance to Otavi Town Council and many others.
