As part of its ongoing concern for the environment, Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd yet again decided to support Global United in 2013 by sponsoring 2 recycling stations.

Global United donated 10 recycling stations in total this year as part of its WASTE NOT WANT NOT campaign 2013, of which 2 were sponsored by Ohorongo Cement.

The mission of Global United is to fight global warming by playing exhibition football matches at various worldwide locations affected by climate change.

This also supports the Sustainable Energy Drive from the Ministry of Environment & Tourism.

Ohorongo supports this mission and drive and strongly believes in the upliftment of the community, while at the same time, protecting the environment.

By making use of the global popularity of football, it serves as a great platform to raise awareness for the alarming issue of global warming and increasing environmental awareness.

These two sponsored stations has a value of N$ 20 000 and will be placed at Hillside Primary School in Khomasdal, Windhoek, as well as at Kamwandi Combined School in Henties Bay.

The first station was officially handed over to Hillside Primary School this morning.

Environmental sustainability starts with education and awareness of the environment, but it also involves that industries do their utmost to use best practices that also shows care for the environment.

Ohorongo takes great pride to say, that by making use of Best Available Technology (BAT), it takes all the environmental aspects into consideration, making it the most modern cement plant in Africa.

Some factors to consider:

  • Reduced dust emission through Bag house filter
  • The lowest CO2 emissions in Africa according to EU standards
  • Equipped to replace the majority of coal with alternative fuels such as wood chips
  • Utilizing excess heat from kiln, saving time & energy in the burning process of raw material to clinker

Ohorongo constantly strives to improve processes and operations at their plant by introducing & adapting internationally accepted best practices to leave a lasting environmental legacy.
